To support people into meaningful employment and community participation.

Who We Are

employable is a Nelson-based employment service supporting people across the Nelson Tasman region.

For more than 25 years, we’ve worked alongside people to help them prepare for work, find employment and stay in employment.

Our roots are in Supported Employment, particularly supporting people with disabilities and health barriers. While that remains an important part of who we are, our work has grown over the years. Today, we also provide ACC Occupational Assessment Services and employment readiness and skills development opportunities for the wider community.

How We Work

We start with the person, not a programme.

Everyone comes to us with different experiences, strengths, challenges and goals. We take the time to understand what matters to the person and what support would actually be useful.

For one person, that might mean figuring out what kind of work would suit them. For someone else, it could be preparing a CV, practising for an interview, approaching employers, building confidence after time away from work or having support available as they settle into a new job.

Our support is practical, individual and focused on helping people move forward.

Our focus has always been on ability, not disability.

We believe people should have the opportunity to contribute, develop their strengths and be recognised for what they can bring to a workplace.

That means looking beyond barriers and labels and focusing on the person, their abilities and what can make employment work.

Part of Our Community

We don’t do this work alone.

We work alongside employers, community organisations, health and support services and other organisations across Nelson Tasman.

Our relationships with local employers are particularly important. We take the time to understand what a workplace needs as well as what the person we’re supporting is looking for, with the aim of creating employment opportunities that work well for everyone involved.

What We Do Today

Our work currently includes MSD-funded Supported Employment for eligible people with disabilities and health barriers, ACC Occupational Assessment Services for people referred to us by ACC, and Employment Readiness & Skills Development opportunities for the wider Nelson Tasman community.
